요즘 배추, 채소등의 가격이 매일같이 오르고 있습니다.. 연말이 다가 오면, 김장으로 주부분들이 분주해지는게 지난 역사였지만.. 올해 들리는 소식으로는 주부분들을 설문조사한 결과 40%의 가정에서는 '올해 김장계획이 없다'라고 합니다. 예전에 10집 중 안하는 집이 이상했던 김장. 이젠 김장도 옵션이 되어가는군요.. 그래서 사먹는 김치의 수요가 점점 올라가는 것일까요?

이 곳 저 곳에서 밝히는 통계치를 보면 4인 가족 김장에 25만 원 정도 든다고 합니다. 일 년 내내 먹을 김치인데 20만원이면 그리 큰 돈은 아니라고 해도, 매년 오르고 있는 추세이니 가정의 부담은 점점 늘어나겠지요..

옛부터 김장을 일 년 양식의 반이라고 했습니다. 그만큼 우리네 삶에 김치는 없어서는 안될 소중한 존재입니다. 그러다 보니 한푼이라도 더 저렴하게 김장을 담그려는 주부님들의 노력이 눈물 겹게 느껴지는 군요. 

무엇보다도 배추를 싸게 사려는 노력을 많이 하시더군요. 배추를 싸게 판다는 소식만 들으면 그 곳이 어디든 달려 가서 줄을 서는 모습들을 봅니다. 요즘 남도미향이 입점되어있는 마트들을 돌아다니다 보면, 여러 마트의 행사들을 보게되는데 이벤트 성으로 손님을 끌기 위해 배추 할인판매를 실시한 매장에서 마지막 판매 시간에 배추를 못사신 주부님은.. 망연자실 안타까운 표정을 드러내기도 할때.. 제가 안타까워 지더군요.


실제로 농협유통은 김장 20포기를 담그는 데 18만원대가 들 것으로 추산했습니다. 비슷한 양(40㎏)의 포장김치를 사는 데도 14만원 정도가 듭니다. 그런데..그냥 김장김치가 아니라, 전라남도 제일의 맛 '백서방 김치', '왕인식품 김치'라면 어떻겠습니까?  포장김치가 40KG에 144,000원이라면.. 김장을 담그는 것과 거의 같은 값으로 한해 김장을 해결할 수 있을 겁니다.

그런데 이런 포장김치를 사는 대부분 사람들은 몇 가지 의심을 합니다. 무엇보다도 포장김치의 생산지가 어디냐는 것이 가장 큰 의심입니다. 배추를 내가 보고 사면 괜찮겠지만 절여오는 배추, 혹시 중국산은 아닐까, 의심이 드는 것은 당연한 일입니다. 이럴 때는 회사를 믿는 수 밖에 없습니다. 대개 포장김치는 농협을 비롯해서 큰 김치 회사들이 파는 경우가 많습니다. 큰 회사들은 자기들 나름대로 유통 경로가 있고, 국가에서 주는 여러 가지 인증도 받았기 때문에 함부로 중국산 배추를 취급하지 못합니다. 취급했다가는 큰일 나죠. 그러니 이럴 때는 회사를 믿고, 그래도 의심이 생긴다면 고객들이 남긴 댓글을 보고 판단하는 수 밖에 없습니다. 전라남도에서 만든 프리미엄 브랜드 남도미향에서는 현재 김치와 관련하여 '백서방김치', '왕인식품 김치'를 책임지고 다루고 있습니다. 믿고 먹을 수 있다는 것을 전라남도와 전라남도 도지사가 책임진다는 것이지요.
