연구를 실시한 김 박사팀은 실험쥐에 김치 추출물을 3주간 투여하고 바이러스를 감염시킨 결과 김치를 다량 섭취한 쥐는 100% 생존하고 그렇지 않은 쥐는 73%의 생존율을 보여 김치의 효능을 입증했습니다.

김영진 박사는 “신종플루 역시 김치로 예방할 수 있다”고 주장합니다. 신종플루는 AI와 달리 고병원성이긴 하지만 바이러스 형태가 유사해 가능하다는 것입니다. 특히 우리나라 신종플루 감염자의 80%가 김치를 잘 먹지 않는 30대 이하의 젊은 층인데다 국내 감염률이 다른 나라에 비해 현저히 낮은 것도 김치의 효능 때문이라게 김 박사의 설명입니다.
윤숙자 한국전통음식연구소 소장도 “김치는 장내에 유산균이 많아 정장작용 등 항암효과가 뛰어나다”며 “잘 익은 김치를 충분히 섭취하면 면역성을 높이고 모든 병을 이겨내는 힘이 있다”고 말했습니다. 또한 무안이 전국 최대 생산지인 양파(전국 생산량의 52%)도 겔세친 이라는 성분이 알레르기 현상을 억제하는 등 면역력 증강에 도움을 주는 것으로 알려졌습니다. 겔세친 함량이 높은 붉은색의 양파 껍데기를 차 마시듯 달여서 마시면 혈압강하 작용을 기대할 수 있습니다.
고추 역시 베타카로틴 성분을 함유하고 있어 호흡기 계통의 감염 저항력을 높이고 면역력을 증진시켜 질병의 회복을 빠르게 해줍니다. 특히 비타민C 함량도 귤보다 2～3배 높고 매운 맛을 내는 성분인 캡사이신은 신진 대사를 증진시키고 체지방을 줄이는 효과가 있습니다.(배추김치, 갓김치, 오징어젓 류, 해초무침 류, 고추장에 많이 함유)
박균조 전남도 농산물유통과장은 “전남은 전국 친환경 농산물의 58.2%를 생산하는 지역”이라며 “전남산 친환경 농식품(배추김치, 갓김치, 오징어젓 류, 해초무침 류)을 많이 섭취해 각종 질병에 대한 면역력을 높이고 균형 잡힌 식단으로 건강을 지키자”고 강조했습니다. 물론 친환경 농산물을 섭취한다고 무조건 신종플루를 예방하는건 아니지만, 요즈음의 인스턴트 식품들을 통해 영양소를 섭취하는 것 보다. 친환경 농산물의 영양소로 인체의 체내 영양비율을 잡아가는게 신종플루 뿐만아니라 건강에 도움이 된다고 생각합니다.
